Price Gouging, Lack of Accountability

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - The Heinz 57 2-for-1 tag charged full price.
  • - Cereal Family Size was charged over $5 due to an error; aisle 15 is disorganized with unclear pricing.
Updated by user May 27, 2025

I filed a formal Complaint with the State of Ohio, Office of the Attorney General, against Kroger, parent company of Food4Less, and many other grocery stores under different names, across the country. No resolution of any kind as of yet.

Updated by user May 11, 2025

I'll go to the store with the best prices and prioritizes customer welfare in all interactions.

Original review May 10, 2025
MAY 8 25 Food4Less in High Desert area of SoCal. Price tag posted "BUY TWO, GET 1 FREE" for Heinz 57 Sauce on the shelf, price tag listed roughly $ 5.49 per bottle--already too expensive.

Other sauces run between $ 1--3 price range.
Previous shopping visit they have a generic Mother's Best brand cereal that costs $ 2.50. They charged me over $ 5 for a Family Size box, clearly initiated a mistake and an overage resulting me in overpaying.
Aisle 15 Personal Care items, totally disorganized and dissheveled on the products placement. No order, no clarity, no cleanliness in the product placement and without clear pricing down the whole aisle.
I talked to my Cashier and told her I bought 2 57 sauces, and should only get charged for 1, because of the the 2 for 1 price tax on the shelf.
Another person checked the aisle and denied my request.
So this is price gouging and I have not been reimbursed by the store.
I asked Food4Less to issue a Credit back to my Visa Debit Card for the amounts they overcharged me. And to fix the performance issues at the store.
The telephone Customer Service is totally worthless.

They collect a lot of private information, and do not solve your problems.

Most of the time the phone number customer service, you cannot reach an employee. When an employee picks up the phone, they do nothing, so it is worthless and a continuation of the lack of accountability and professionalism.

User's recommendation: I like the products, but the employees and operations are classless

My God where did this emotional undisciplined person come from. Self examination is an absolute must. You judged everything except yourself and who are you to judge others when you have so many unattended deficiencies within yourself to correct.

Guest

You said the Heinz 57 was buy TWO get ONE free. Then you told the cashier “I got 2, it’s 2 for 1.

No, it’s not. It’s buy 2 ($11.98) get one free. (BTW there is no $1 to $3 sauce in a comparable size. If there is, buy it!

And other stores Heinz 57 is $6 to $7. At Target it is $7.19) Second mistake, the cereal. The 16 oz is on sale. You got the Family Size, 24 oz.

Not on sale. As for the personal care aisle? The clientele that shops there are lazy, straight out of the trailer park. It gets faced once before closing and the animals destroy it next day.

I don’t know where to tell you to shop where you can make up your own sale. You’re 2 for 2 here. Examples of YOUR mistakes. You’re mad at these prices but want white-glove, red carpet treatment.

This chain exists for one type of shopper. If you don’t like it, go where that store exists that is in your head your comparing Food 4 Less to.

Totally devoid of self examination and personal accountability. Self examine yourself and fix your deficiencies. I don't know if you are male or female, but I do know you are erratically emotional.

I don’t need self-examination or personal accountability. I’m not the one falsely posting on a complaint site of how I was wronged.

OP gave two examples of pricing errors and they were wrong. They refer to the employees as classless because they didn’t get their way.

No need to try to shame someone making a comment. I would NEVER wrongly behave the way OP did, much less whine about it on a complaint site.

You do need self--examination. You are an emotional male.

Get out of your feelings. I had problems with the pricing and store operations. I informed Food4Less of the problems. And I contacted Kroger Corporate.

You get out of your feelings and run your own life.

You are emotionally out of control. If you want to waste money and do tirades on the internet, go back to your Tik Tok channel.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2693215

My money has nothing to do with it. You were wrong twice.

On the Heinz and on the cereal. Pointing out your failures is not me being emotional.

It is you being a grifting liar. You think you can lie but the store wasn’t having it.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2693694

As I said before, you are an emotional male. You are unable to control your emotions.

For the Heinz 57 Sauce, it was priced with a promotion BUY 2, GET 1 FREE. For the cereal, Mother’s Best cereal cost $ 2.50. Family Size costs over $ 5. I was overcharged.

Those are facts. Since you cannot separate facts from your emotional outbursts, you think a man showing a problem requires you to get into your feelings, instead of solving problems. I don’t want to hear your emotional outbursts. And you probably have no money or food since you see no value in either.

Your overabundance is in emotionalism and false accusations. In any case, I filed a complaint with Kroger and with the Better Business Bureau. They have the facts and will make their own decisions based on facts.

Don’t cry or go into an emotional tirade about it. Go back to your Tik Tok videos and complaining about stocking shelves.

Food is old within a few days of purchased

AI Highlights
  • - The supervisor was unhelpful and asked for a receipt.
  • - I had about $100 of groceries; bread and cheese molded after 3 days, and I will report the store.

Went to store, and a supervisor was no help at all. She said I needed a receipt.

I would have to come back to talk to the upper management.

I told I brought about a hundred dollars of groceries and few days ago.

I took them home not thinking about keeping my receipt.

I had no idea that some of my groceries would spoil in 3 days of my purchased.

The bread molded, and my pack of cheese was molded.

I told her I would report her store.

Today date is June 2,2025.

Mistake by store must be paid for by customer

AI Highlights
  • - Romaine marked down 4.99 to 2.62, price shows only on receipt.
  • - Took over 30 minutes; no solution; no account number helped; cash paid.
Food 4 Less - Mistake by store must be paid for by customer
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives

Items marked down because of date. Romaine marked down from 4.99 to 2.62.

Of course the way stores operate the price does not show until the receipt is printed. So the customer does not know until they get home and find they are charged the wrong price!

Tried Kroger customer complaint and it took over 30 minutes and after being told do I want to talk to the same person again with not ever talking to the person to start had to call again and wait. No results because I do not have a account number for them even though I spent cash;; he insisted. Only what the computer tells them.

The store was no help-drive back and they will correct the price, but will not pay for your time or travel even though it was their mistake in ringing the item up and not having a way to send them a scan of the item and receipt.

BUYER BEWARE! Should we have to stand and waste our time making sure the items ring up right-not on screen but after the receipt is printed, are prices not high enough without spending time doing that!

User's recommendation: If we stand and block the line checking the receipt before we leave the store will get better.

5x Harassed by Security Guard

AI Highlights
  • - Night security guard stole my items and refused to look at my receipt.
  • - Tonight was the sixth inappropriate interaction, with bag searches and arm touch.

The night time security guard stole my items and refused to look at my receipt.until they retrain or remove the night security guard, shop at your own risk. Tonight is the 6th time he had inappropriate interaction with me.

The first night he searched my shopping bag and pulled items purchased from Target, very uninterested in looking at my receipt, so no dinner that night. Since then he has made me open my bags and purse. I make sure not to shop anywhere else first, and he has found nothing in my bags since. One of the times as I entered, he put his hand on my arm and asked how was I.

I replied "fine, how are you?" and he let me pass. Night he was very excited to refuse me entry to the store, so enough's enough and I'm making the complaints I should have done, on the first night.

User's recommendation: Avoid until better guards are hired

Poor store management

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Security blocked entry minutes before closing.
  • - The staff claimed the manager would not allow entry; reviewer will contact a Chicago news station.

Went to the store fifteen minutes before it was to officially close and the security would not let me in. He claimed the store manager was not allowing customers into the store.

If she does not want to do her job and allow customers to shop what is she working there. Lastly if the store was in a white neighborhood this would have never happened. Its unacceptable that blatant discrimination is occurring in people of color communities and does not go unchecked. It is deplorable and unacceptable.

I will be reaching out to s new station to investigate the food for less store off of 71st and Ashland Ave in Chicago, IL for such malfeasance. Wtf

Loss:
$20
Pros:
  • Nice prices
Cons:
  • Poor management

Preferred solution: The store manger should be reprimanded as well as an apology provided and other compensation for such egregious acts!

User's recommendation: Do not go to this store or keep filing complaints against management until they are replaced!

Rude manager and unprofessional.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I'm 70yrs old and have a handicap I have trouble walking. I went into the Food For Less store in Dolton around 8:30 this morning.

To my disappointment there were no motorised carts that worked and there was no guard at the front door to ask for help. I did my shopping, and as I reached the checkout lines there was only 1 line open for the 8 people standing in front of me. Finally I saw who I thought was the manager she acknowledged who she was and I asked her about the carts, and she told me that she would check it out. As I was about to leave I saw her again and she told me that they were working, she went on to tell me that you have to ask one of the guys to help me.

I tried to tell her there was no one there when I came in, and it's always like this, I live less than a mile from here and I shop here at least 3 times a week and it's always like this..she then told me that she was busy and walked off!!! After she realized what she had said she started apologizing for her comments. I was so mad I told her I was going to call the corporate office. She said go ahead and call!!!

Her actions were rude and unprofessional. I thought that a store of your size would accommodate the handicap.

Not make excuses!!! Why they aren't.

Preferred solution: More carts for the handicap, and mangers that try to be civil when you do have problem and not ignore you and walk off!!!!
